Clarence Legett was born in Friendship, Tennessee. In 1920, when he was only 8 years old, his family moved to Mississippi in a covered wagon. For a living, they farmed and cut down timber.
In 1935, Clarence got married. At this time, he was still working on the farm.
He and his wife then moved to Birmingham, where Clarence got a job at a cement company. He ended up working there for a total of 29 and a half years, including his time spent in the military during World War II.
Clarence served in the military from 1942 (or '43) to 1945 in the African Theater. When he departed from home, he and his wife had a boy that was just 2 years old.
